ABOUT ME
Over the last decade, Kevo Abbra a Kenyan born and based artist, has emerged as one of East Africa’s leading creative stylist, costume designer and visual artist whose works focuses within the genre known as Afrofuturism.Entirely self taught, he has built a unique artistic language that merges African culture and heritage with speculative imagination. He became sought-after for his ability to tell stories through fashion, essentially using clothing and props as his artistic medium to construct narrative driven characters that bridge the past,present and future. His vibrant use of colors, textures, and prints is often drawn from the landscapes and lifestyles of his people. Integrating folklore, contemporary style and futuristic design in his work, Kevo Abbra’s creations speak to African audiences’ sense of identity while captivating international viewers with fresh narratives. The artist frequently positions marginalized figures ( from slum kids to elderly matriarchs ) as heroes, visionaries and central characters, he challenges stereotypes creating a powerful platform to convey important messages on topics such as Representation, Inclusion, Sustainability, Equality, Elderly Care and African Identity. Kevo Abbra re-imagines a new Africa through fashion,cultural identity and style. In addition to his fine art practice, Kevo Abbra has made significant contributions as a commercial Stylist and art director. His signature vision has led to work with some of the top local and international brands including Marvel’s Black Panther, Oprah Winfrey Network’s Queen Sugar, Absolut Vodka, Campari, Nike, Universal Music Group, Def Jam,K.F.C, Fingo Africa, Safaricom,Tecno, Nikon, Airtel, Tusker Lite, Hyundai, Foschini, Aakkoset just to name a few. His work has been exhibited in multiple art fairs and exhibitions both locally and internationally gaining recognition for its emotional depth and visual storytelling.
